Online Shopping Anyone?

Here's a great article about the merits of online shopping. Enjoy.

What Online Gifts Have Come To Mean To The Shopper
by Gina Stathopoulos

Shoppers buying online gifts last year generated $301 billion in revenue. Now that shopping on the internet isn’t such a new thing as it once was, consumers feel very comfortable trusting both the security of their credit card details and the fact that the recipients will receive their gift.

Shopping for online gifts rather than going to a store is very enticing…

We save money.

In many cases, by preferring to buy my gifts online I’ve seen great savings. Many factors combine so that we shoppers win -- the competition, the fact that merchants don’t have the same overheads as offline stores, and of course, the country you are shopping from and how strong your country’s currency is.

We save time.

These days we work longer hours. The time that we do have to ourselves is very precious. Buying online gifts saves me a lot of time. With all the birthdays I have to shop for and those special occasions it makes my life so much easier.

We have such a large variety of gifts.

Where the shops in your area may store some items, with online gifts you can find quantity, quality and variety. A good example is nautical jewelry. If you are a big fan like I am, you can find pieces created in such different designs that you won’t run out of choices. Looking for flowers? Or gift baskets? Same thing. Shop online and choose. The choice is there.

Designers unleash their creativity to give us more.

The internet has made it possible for the little guy and girl to unleash their creativity, and it gives us shoppers more of a choice in niche gift products. Many mum and dad businesses are popping on the internet because the internet gives them the opportunity to do so.

I, along with a heap of my friends, are animal lovers. What's better than to give your cat-lover friend a set of gold cat earrings for her birthday that look like the cats are just hanging on to her ear lobes. What's cuter!

Truth is, I hadn’t seen much of a variety in cat and dog jewelry until I started shopping online. Sure, you will find some, but animal jewelry is a niche kind of gift so your variety offline will be limited. And another truth…I haven’t seen pieces that are so eye-catching as those sold online.

It's easier to shop for friends and family overseas.

Do you remember the days when you used to send cards overseas on special occasions? Those days are gone for me. A card is nice, a gift much nicer. If you want to buy something from your country and send it overseas, it’s the postage that burns a hole in your pocket. Now with so many businesses getting online, you can choose a local site for the country you want to send to and your gift as well as your thoughts are on their way.

As you see, it’s not difficult for the consumer to see the wide benefits of shopping online and these are my reasons for doing so. I have been sending online gifts for over five years now.

Thanks, Gina, for pointing out the benefits of shopping online.

Those of us who are regular online shoppers sometimes forget that many people are still wary of shopping this way. It's actually no riskier than shopping by mail order as most online merchants offer excellent money-back guarantees if you're not happy with your purchase. And my banker assures me that giving your credit card details online is much safer than handing your card to a waiter at a restaurant.

In the eight years that I've been shopping online I have yet to encounter a problem. But if this way of shopping is new to you, start with a small purchase and test the waters for yourself. Buying a book or sending flowers is an easy way to begin.

8.Gift Baskets save you lots of time! No need to drive from place to place and scour the malls looking for the perfect gift!

7.Gift Baskets come in a variety of sizes and price ranges, making them ideal for any budget.

6.Gift Baskets are themed and can be tailored to suit the particular occasion perfectly.

2.Gift Baskets make wonderful gifts for the person who has everything.

1.Gift Baskets make you look good!

10. If you are shopping for that “hard-to-buy-for” person who has everything, then gift baskets are an excellent choice! Most of the “gifts” in the gift basket are consumable (i.e., bath and body products, notepaper, yummy treats), so even the person who has everything can use the items in a gift basket! And when your gift recipient has used all of the items, they even have a great basket to fill with a silk plant or silk flowers, or some soaps and fingertip towels! The possibilities are endless!

9. When shopping for a gift basket, be sure and look for one that is themed toward your recipient’s interests. Many gift basket companies will let you substitute items to customize your gift basket. Make sure you contact their customer service department by email or telephone to see if customization is available. Most gift basket companies are more than willing to try and accommodate the needs and requests of their customers!

8. Gift baskets are so beautiful and so much fun, which is why everyone loves to receive them and spend time exploring and savoring the contents!

7. Gift Baskets are filled with lots of “mini” presents. There can be books, plaques, bath and body products, stuffed animals, journals and notepaper, CDs, figurines, and lots of yummy gourmet treats like chocolates, cookies, pretzels, popcorn, smoked salmon and pate! Some gift baskets even come with wine. The gift recipient will love discovering all of the fun presents tucked inside the gift basket!

6. Shopping for and/or sending a gift has never been easier! You can do it right from the comfort of your own home while relaxing with your favorite beverage of choice! You can even shop in your pajamas! What could be better than that! Visit a Gift Basket website, spend some time comfortably browsing the gift basket selection, then simply point and click your mouse, and a few minutes later you have solved your gift-giving problem! No more waiting in endless lines when you have a million other things you could be doing. No more trying to find the right size shipping box, and spending forever at the Post Office to ship your gift! It’s all taken care of for you in a matter of minutes. Your biggest problem now is deciding what to do with all the time you just saved yourself!

5. Most gift baskets are built around a central theme. There are fishing theme gift baskets, golf theme gift baskets, pamper or spa gift baskets, book gift baskets for people who love to read, baby gift baskets, thank you gift baskets, angel gift baskets, sympathy gift baskets, Irish gift baskets, “date night” gift baskets, Christmas gift baskets, Valentine’s Day gift baskets, Mother’s Day gift baskets, Father’s Day Gift Baskets, Easter Gift Baskets, housewarming gift baskets, and my personal favorite, Christian and Religious gift baskets! Gift Baskets can be tasteful and elegant, fun and playful, bright and cheery, or inspirational and comforting.

4. Gift baskets can range in price from $29.95 for a small basket to $300.00 for a very large extravagant gourmet gift basket. There is a price range and gift basket for everyone!

3. Ever drive around town and spend hours scouring the malls trying to find the perfect gift, only to arrive back home tired, frustrated, and worse, even empty-handed? Or, if you finally did find a gift, now you have to gift wrap it (hopefully you didn’t forget to buy wrapping paper!). Do yourself a favor: send a gift basket!

2. Whether you need the perfect gift for a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, a get well gift, to celebrate the birth of a baby, or to express your deepest sympathy, gift baskets are the first-class choice. Gift baskets are available for women, men, children, teens, moms, dads, grandparents, friends, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, or anyone special on your list!

1. Gift Baskets make you look good! Your gift recipient will be absolutely delighted to receive such a warm, thoughtful gift from you!

Gifts For The Senses

Most of us favor the use of only one of our five senses, although we often switch back and forth depending on the situation.

For example, an architect needs to have a keenly developed visual sense for his job, but may enjoy hobbies in his free time that are based on physical activity, such as playing racquetball or going fly fishing.

When you buy a gift, it helps to know the sensual preferences of the person you're buying for. Our free report will help you discover that those preferences are. And with over 200 gift ideas included, you'll be sure to find something that fits the bill perfectly.

Link Romantic Feelings To The Sight Of Your Face

Anchoring is an NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) term used to describe the mind’s tendency to associate two unrelated events or experiences, especially when a strong emotion is present.

For example, if your mother fed you chicken soup when you were ill as a child, you will always associate chicken soup to being loved and cared for.

On the down side, if you once contracted food poisoning from eating tainted pickles, just the smell of pickles will be enough to bring on a feeling of nausea many years after the event.

How does anchoring work in relationships?

If you come home from work elated by a promotion and see your lover’s face, you will link that feeling of elation to the sight of his or her face. By the same token, if you hate your job and constantly talk about those feelings over dinner with your spouse, you'll unconsciously begin to associate the bad feelings with him or her.

In that case, you must make a conscious effort to share more good times with them so you will more readily associate positive feelings to the sight of their face.

Sharing good times creates positive anchors or associations. It helps you to weather the less positive times that every couple experiences at some stage in their relationship.

Breaking up is often the result of linking too many negative anchors to the sight of your partner’s face, with no knowledge of how to counteract them by deliberately creating positive ones.

Here’s a common example. A young doctor whose wife works to help him through medical school may decide to divorce her after he graduates. This is because he associates the sight of her face to the hard times they experienced during those years. Of course this is all unconscious – all he knows is that he feels bad whenever he looks at her. He mistakenly takes this as a sign that the relationship isn’t working.

Now that you know how anchoring works, use it intentionally to improve your relationship.

1. Plan positive events together and make sure you don’t let any negativity intrude on the event. Save arguments or disagreements for a later time.

2. During the height of an intensely positive moment you are sharing:
a. touch your loved one lightly on the knee or arm
b. squeeze the person’s hand or
c. put your arms around him or her.
The next time you repeat the same gesture with this person in some other context, it will reawaken some of those original emotions in them.

In a similar way, if you touch someone in a specific way when they are feeling sad, for example, you squeeze their shoulder or put an arm around them at a funeral, touching them later in the same way will reawaken those feelings of sadness. So be careful about what sorts of emotions you are associating to your touch, words or face.

How does this apply to gifts?

A gift is by its nature an anchor. Every time the recipient looks at the gift, they will remember the occasion when they received it, especially if they experienced strong emotions at the time.

So you can help guarantee that your gift will be a strong ongoing anchor if you make sure that you create a truly memorable experience – such as an extremely romantic evening - when you present the gift.

A woman will always remember following a trail of rose petals in her lover’s apartment to find the necklace he purchased for her birthday.

A man will always remember being presented with his own personal star by a lover dressed only in a star-patterned bra and g-string.

It’s also important to consider the opposite effect.

Never give a gift by way of apology. You don’t want to create negative anchors by giving gifts after an argument.

If you give your wife a diamond ring to apologize for the fact that she caught you cheating with your secretary, the ring will always remind her of your infidelity.

If you give your husband a new watch to apologize for crashing his BMW, he’ll remember your transgression every time he checks the time.

Even if those memories don't make it to conscious awareness, they're lurking just under the surface. It makes better sense to allow them to fade away, instead of attaching them to physical objects like gifts.

Keep things simple. A genuine apology is all that’s required after an argument. Save gifts for positive occasions.

Tips On Caring For Your Valentine's Day Flowers

Here's an interesting article on caring for cut flowers. It should come in handy this Valentine's Day.

Tips On Caring For Your Valentine's Day Flowers
by Gerry Belvedere

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we thought this would be a great time to share a few tips on caring for cut flowers.

Imagine it's Valentine's Day and you've just received a glorious bunch of roses. You put them in your best vase and you stand back to admire them. You'd love to make them last as long as you possibly can, but other than keeping them out of direct sunlight, you're not sure what to do.

Here are some tips on how to extend the shelf life of your roses:

1. Remove the roses from the vase and put them in a temporary container.

2. Clean the vase by washing it thoroughly in water with household bleach.

3. Fill the vase with fresh water and add a half teaspoon of household bleach for each litre (16 fluid ounces) of water.

4. Remove your roses from their temporary container and lay them flat on a counter top.

5. Remove any leaves which will show below the waterline in the vase.

6. Cut about 20 mm (3/4 inch) from the base of each stem immediately before placing it in the vase. This removes any air bubbles.

7. Don't place roses in drafts or direct sunlight, or near fruit, heaters, TVs or refrigerators.

8. Change the water daily to extend the vase life of your roses.

Freshly picked roses can last up to two weeks with a little extra care.

Enjoy!

A Gift Idea For A Man

Hi Readers,

Sometimes, coming up with a gift idea for a man can be a daunting task. So what do you get him, ladies? Well, I've written just a few ideas that will hopefully start you off on the road to finding that perfect gift for him.

Tools

Yes, I know...it's so cliché. "Why don't I just get him some tools for his tool shed...or a set he can keep in the car?"

You know what??? Ladies, you can never go wrong with tools. They give your man that special feeling of being 'the man'. So tools can be a good start when you jot down some gift ideas for him. Mind you, this gift works even better for a man who works at a trade.

Cool Gadgets

This is as close as he can get to being James Bond. Get him the coolest, latest gadget he can show off to his friends. This will surely put a smile on his face.

Oh! Did I hear you ask what type of gadget??? Well, you could get him the latest IPOD or mobile phone, or anything that can keep him occupied trying to work out how to use it. Just make sure he doesn't break it!

Watch

If he doesn't have a watch, you can invest in a good quality one. Notice, I said "invest". Now you'll know that he'll never be late for any of your appointments or dates, so no more excuses about not knowing the time. And the least that can happen is he'll think of you whenever he looks at the time.

Cologne

A nice cologne will really help him with his grooming. Some men just buy whatever they see in the aisle of the grocery store. They think a dash of aftershave is enough to get them through the day. But while some of these products smell nice, after a hard, sweaty day at work they're really not very effective. A good cologne and deodorant gift pack would be a more practical gift idea for him. Nowadays, you can almost get both for the price of one.

Well, I hope this helped you out a bit, ladies, and if you think this info helped you in some way, please share it with us. We'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Have a great day!

Valentine’s Day Cards

Hi All,

I love reading love stories. I came across this article and wanted to share it with you. It may give you some ideas as to what to write in your Valentine's Day card.

All My Love And Devotion: A True Story
by Ellen M. DuBois

They met at a dance in 1931, and six months later, on January 30, 1932, were married. I am speaking of my Nana and Pop (grandparents), who for sixty years were not just married, but were in love. Really IN LOVE.

I have chronicled their love through some very touching cards. I found them in a box, tucked away with a lifetime of memories. The cards were shared between them before and after my father was born. Most are from my Grandfather to my Grandmother. He drove and worked and she was home, so his ability to buy cards for her was greater.

Five years into their marriage they had a son. Their love was as strong as ever...growing stronger with each passing day, month and year as you will see.

I was witness to their special love for thirty years of my life, and for four more after the passing of my "Pop" as I watched my Nana's heart slowly die of emptiness. She was literally without her other half. If you believe in soul mates, they were soul mates in the truest sense.

I don't have every sentiment ever expressed between the two of them (those are theirs alone), but was lucky enough to find a box of perfectly kept cards, beginning in the year 1932.

1932: A Valentine To My Wife

THE LAST CARD.

This is the last card I could find, and literally, the last card ever given from my Nana to my Pop before he died. He was 86, and she was 89. The road of love is long and full of curves, bumps, hills, ups and downs. As a team, no matter where the road lead or how bumpy or smooth it was, they made it. The road of true love is the only road that never, ever ends.

1995:(My Nana was 89 at the time she gave this to my Pop.) To My Hubby on Christmas Day, Wifey
FOR MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND...WHAT IS LOVE?
"WHAT IS LOVE? Love is a touch - tender with care- A meaningful look - secrets to share - Love is a mood - laughter or tears - Shared by two hearts - attuned through the years. Love is a word - that kindles a fire - To give you the world - and all you desire. Love is a faith - that dreams will come true. Love is wonderful - love, Dear, is you.

Back again. This shows what true love is about and that’s what I’m looking for, a man who’s there for a long, long time through the bumpy ride of life. I hope this gives you some ideas about what to write in your Valentine's Day card. If anyone has some Valentine's Day messages that they'd like to share, feel free to post them on the Romantic Gift Ideas blog.
